BRISKA SCHOOL OF DANCE

About BrisKA School of Dance
It was founded in 2011, is dedicated to teaching the Indian classical dance form Bharatanatyam. The school began its journey by offering classes in the Southmead and Fishponds areas under the guidance of Mrs. Rekha Girish, a trained dancer from the London School of Dance. From 2011 to 2014, she taught nearly 100 students, successfully passing on her expertise, passion, and commitment to the art form.
BrisKA School of Dance is now led by Mrs. Thurkha Satheeshwaran — a Bachelor of Arts, Natiyakalavithakar award recipient, choreographer, teacher, and performer.
She began learning Bharatanatyam at the age of five, and by 26, she had completed the prestigious teacher’s examination conducted by Sangeetha Sabhai, earning the respected title Natiya Kalavithakar.

Originally from Sri Lanka, Mrs. Satheeshwaran is a graduate of the University of Jaffna. In 2005, she founded her own dance academy in Sri Lanka, Saktheesh Narthanalayam, which welcomed 60 students—many of whom have since become dance teachers themselves.

Students of BrisKA School of Dance participate in annual examinations conducted by OFAAL (The Oriental Fine Arts Academy of London), Europe’s leading examination board for traditional South Indian fine arts. These certifications have supported many students in enhancing their academic profiles and cultural engagement.

BrisKA students continually contribute their colour, skill, and talent to the cultural programmes organised by BrisKA and the wider community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the school adapted by offering online classes to maintain continuity and support students’ progress.
